In the 1980s we
imported chrysalids
of this spectacular
butterfly from
Malaysia and
successfully established
a breeding colony in a
tropical greenhouse.
Sadly, the colony failed
when the caterpillar hostplant became diseased. We carefully preserved the wing fragments from the parent butterflies and may have enough material for 6-10 pendants and matching earrings. Although collected and killed specimens are available through the internet and can be found in tourist markets throughout south-east Asia, this species now is protected under CITES. Once our stock of vintage wing fragments has been exhausted, no more of these special pieces will be crafted.
